Burns Treatment

Occupational therapy is an integral profession in the management of the burn patient. The site and degree of injury usually determines the degree of loss of performance of activities of daily living.

Burns to the hands and arms results in greater loss of skills than do burns elsewhere. Problems can be experienced in self-care, productivity, leisure, sensation, motor function and psycho-socially.
Burn care management at The OT Clinic addresses:

  • Continued passive Range Of Motion (ROM)
  • Splinting and anti-deformity positioning
  • Increasing active Range Of Motion and strengthening

  • Training in activities of daily living (ADL)
  • Initial and continuing scar management
  • Preparation for work, play, or school
  • Progressive ROM and strengthening
  • Evaluation of evolving problem areas
  • Specific postoperative therapy after reconstructive operations
