The choice of modalities will depend on the nature of the intervention. Hand therapy patients can expect to use several ‘activities’ along with therapeutic exercise to achieve the objectives. Hand patients may also be splinted with a custom made low temperature thermoplastic material which either immobilizes, or enhances motion. Modalities of electrical stimulation, cryotherapy, heat therapy and ultrasound are components of a typical therapy regime. Neurological patients can expect their treatment to include modalities of activities, therapeutic exercise, electrical stimulation, retraining in activities of daily living, cognitive retraining activities depending on the problems identified from the evaluation. Some orthopaedic and neurological patients are trained how to use assistive devices or adaptive equipment to allow them to perform daily activities more easily and safely. Industrial rehabilitation clients can expect education in back care/neck care/ strategies, ergonomics, therapeutic exercise and job simulation tasks.
